INTRODUCTION

Yaba  College of  Technology under the leadership of  Engr. Dr. Ibraheem  Adedotun  Abdul is said to be the only Polytechnic having a Central Research Laboratory in Nigeria alongside  six public Universities i.e. University of  Lagos, University of  Ilorin, ABU Zaria, Yar adua university, Katsina, Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta, Ekiti State Univesity and private university such as Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State.

The vision of the Laboratory is to become one-stop research reference point for the academician  and  industry,both theoretically and practically; providing research results with precision geared towards technological advancement of  Nigeria.

The very mission statement is to consolidate and improve on the training and research activities that will lead to technological advancement of  the nation  and  the world at  large. 

 

                                    GOALS

Yaba College of Technology Central Research Laboratory (CCRL) is an ultra-modern research laboratory equipped with cutting-edge, state of the-art research infrastructure aim at:

●      Enhancing research activities in the institution and the general public.

 

●      Empowering technological development through training and research.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

●      To provide infrastructure for both academic and industrial researchers.

●      To provide laboratory and workshop for NBTE accreditation programs.

●      To provide education and awareness in the area of research and the use of laboratories through workshop and seminars.

●      To generate revenue for the upkeep of the facilities and for the college.

 

College Central Research Laboratory building was commissioned on the 12th of July, 2017. It houses: Four Computer Based Test (CBT) Laboratories,Chemical Engineering Laboratory; Mechatronic Engineering Laboratory;Molecular Biology Laboratory and Analytical Chemistry Laboratory. Since commissioning, the Center has  always  been used by:

‘General Studies’ courses in Yaba College of  Technology are now Computer-Based Tests, and the Center is used for this purpose.

 

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) as a CBT center in conducting the UTME examinations for students annually.

The Nigeria Customs in carrying out promotional and recruitment tests;

The Nigeria Police for promotional and recruitment tests.

JAMB for promotional and recruitment tests.

‘General Studies’ courses in Yaba College of Technology are now Computer-Based Tests, and the Center is used for this purpose.

Ministry of Budget and National Planning also uses the Centre for its annual staff training on GIF/MIS Budget Preparation Subsystem.

Lagos state Ministry of Education placement examination to Model colleges to mention just a few.

The Centre started up commercial services in the Analytical Chemistry and Molecular Biology Laboratories in August, 2018 shortly after holding its first Student Training Series on July 30, 2018.

 

ACTIVITIES OF THE CENTER

We offer services to students, researchers, Institutions, firms & corporate bodies.

●      Students training. 

●      Staff in-house equipment training.

●      Analysis: The CCRL has been put into use in carrying out several analysis including: Water portability test, Environmental analysis such as the determination of in-site parameters (DO, PH, TDS e.t.c). Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Heavy metals, Proximate, Energy and general pollution studies.
