You are welcome to the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED), Yaba College of Technology. The Centre is a trail blazer in the country being the first Centre to be created by the first tertiary institution in Nigeria dedicated to the training of students that are graduates to become employers of labour thereby creating employment opportunities for Nigerians leveraging on well tailored entrepreneurship training provided by the centre.
THE CREATION/HISTORY
The Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) was established in 2003 by Yaba College of Technology four years earlier than all other polytechnics in Nigeria, to develop the mindset of undergraduate students from being job seekers to job creators with a view to reducing the rate of youth unemployment, hopelessness and restiveness in Nigeria.
The Centre was created in 2003 in line with directives of the Federal Government of Nigeria who deemed it fit that it was time it deployed the knowledge of Entrepreneurship to tackle the myriads of problems, affecting the teenage youth of the country caused by youth unemployment.
Dr. Olubunmi Owoso (Late) therefore in line with the government directives set up the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED), to pioneer Entrepreneurship Education in Nigeria.
Innocent Akhumonkhan consequently became the pioneer Director of the Centre.
The Centre has grown in leaps and bounds since its creation and it has had Dr. (Mrs.) Oyetola, O.T., Mrs. Vivian Eniola, Engr. Isaac Ajiboshin, Engr. Orlando Ize-Balogban as its past Directors. The Centre currently under the leadership of Mr. Bolaji Cole as its Director.

PROGRAMME
In line with the mandate of NBTE, the Centre for Entrepreneurship facilities the implementation of entrepreneurship education in the curricula of all National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in the College. The Centre is also involved in research, consultancy, programme development and skill acquisitions for prospective entrepreneurs.
Specifically, the Centre is entrusted with carrying out the following activities:
i. Teaching Entrepreneurship Education (EED) modules across the programmes in the College with a view to providing students with entrepreneurial, business and human development skills required to set up businesses and succeed in doing so;
ii. Developing students' cognitive thinking and opportunity-identification capacities for self-employment and employability during and after graduation through group projects development;
iii. Organizing mentorship sessions to provide students with practical business experience on campus by meeting with successful Entrepreneurs in the country to cultivate in them entrepreneurial spirit and culture provided by the invited mentors;
iv. Inculcating the 'Spirit of Entrepreneurship' on the campus communities through exhibitions, business support services, mentoring and sales of the Centre's products and services on campus and its environ;
v. Providing consultancy services to the local communities through collaborating with relevant government agencies, private sector organisations and entrepreneurship development centres (EDCs) in Nigeria and abroad to promote entrepreneurship and small businesses.
The report covers four major areas: Teaching and Training, Product development/production and Information.
A. Teaching
Teaching (Theory, practice & mentoring) of Entrepreneurship courses (EED126, EED216, EED316 and EED413) in all the departments in the College every semester.
EED126: Introduction to Entrepreneurship (ND 1)
EED216: Practice of Entrepreneurship (ND 2)
EED316: Entrepreneurship Development I (HND 1)
EED413: Entrepreneurship Development II (HND 2)
At the end of the semester, students are grouped to develop products/services with project profile/ feasibility reports or business plans.
B. Training
The Centre organizes training for staff and students, in addition to teaching entrepreneurship according to the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) curriculum from time to time.
C. PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT/PRODUCTION
This section of the Centre warehouses projects done by both full-time and part-time students. We showcase these projects at every exhibition where the College community is invited or when it is organized in the College. We are practically involved in organizing Centre's yearly Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) exhibitions.
OUR OPERATION
At the beginning of the semester students from various departments are grouped into group to ten by their lecturers. They submit project proposal to their lecturers for approval, at the end of the semester they submit approved projects to the Production Centre. Products collected are grouped under these headings:
· Woodworks
· Electrical and Electronics
· Chemicals
· Printings
· Clothing
· Art works and Decorations
· Leather works and
· Exhibitables
Details of these headings are discussed below:
· Woodworks: This includes tables, chairs, hangers, stools, dressing mirrors, etc.
· Electrical and Electronics: This includes electrical sockets, boiling rings and kettles.
· Chemical: This include soaps - both bar and detergent, disinfectants, deodorants, fumigants, etc.
· Printing and Stationeries: This includes exercise books, calendars-both table and wall, jotters, writing pads, etc.
· Clothing’s: This includes Batik, Dye and Tire, sweaters, throw pillows, sown wears etc.
· Art works and Decorations: It includes free hand drawings, wall clocks, home decorations, etc.
· Exhibitables: These are products that have long life span. They are retained in the Centre purposely for exhibitions. It includes washing machines, refrigerators and other innovative products.
D. INFORMATION AND CONSULTANCY
This section of the Centre is the link between the Centre and the ecosystem via the Registrar's office. It interacts with the environment, receives, processes and gives information for the benefit of the Centre and College at large. It is also responsible for organizing activities for the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is the world's largest celebration for Entrepreneurship, celebrating-creativity, innovation and job creation, and without doubt, has been an amazing form of publicity nationally, regionally and internationally for entrepreneurs.
E. Part-Time
This unit oversees the training of students of part-time program.
In addition to the courses listed above, the Federal Government through National Board for Technical Education, NBTE has recently mandated the College to mount Skill Acquisition Programmes for the students.

ACHIEVEMENT
Two former Directors of the Centre, Mr. Innocent Akhumonkhan and Dr. (Mrs.) Oyelola O.T have risen to become Deputy Rector (Academics) and Acting Rector respectively.
The Centre has started the Skill training unit and the students are being trained in twelve (12) different skills/trades in compliance with the directive of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
The Centre now awards certificates in entrepreneurship to students alongside the normal National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND).
